    Description

This is another one of my highly detailed copper weather vanes.  This one is a depiction of an early 20th century coal burning steam tugboat.   I am at the point now where I have run out of space to display my one of a kind creations so I have begun selling some of my body of work.   These weather vanes take several months to fabricate with many hours of hand filing and fitting pieces to be soldered.  I've been asked to exhibit  my work in different venues.
The tug is approx. 25 inches long and is mounted on a 2" thick piece of solid mahogany.  Materials used: sheet copper; brass is used for some fittings; brass and copper wire; lead solder.  The  ship is able to rotate freely on its mount.   I've made some weather vanes to be used outdoors but those are not highly detailed as my latest creations.  My work now is trending more as metal sculpture rather than exterior decoration.    The photographs will be the best description of the tugboat.  Questions are always welcomed.
In the last half of the 19th century and into the first quarter of the 20th weather vanes were very detailed  custom works of art.  Some can still be seen in museums.   I am endeavoring to recreate that era of craftmanship.
I very carefully prepare my weather vanes for shipment and insure them for their value.  Local pickup is also offered.
