    Description

    RARE Antique 4 ½” Diameter Round
    Cobalt SLR Ghost
    Lightning Rod Ball. This ball was sold by the Security Lightning Rod Co. of Burlington, WI. It has a VERY faint “SLR Co” embossed on the front of the ball (not visible in the photos). This was the result of the erasure of “SLR Co” from the original molds. In 1923, the company changed its name to Security Manufacturing and Contracting Co. and it is speculated that is why they erased “SLR Co” from the original molds. The long collars were ¾” high. You can see from the photos that the top collar is very worn and the bottom collar is chipped. That being said, the ball displays well with the new end caps which are included(a value). This would be a 0-0 ball in mint condition.
    All of the lightning rod balls (LRBs) that I have for sale are from my 30+ year collection. They are all authentic antique LRBs. Beware of reproductions and even lamp parts that some sellers are trying to pass as LRBs. If it looks really unusual, it’s probably not an LRB.
