$ 83.95

Availability: 100 in stock

Description

This is a genuine antique 'Circus' or 'Trotting' Horse weathervane from the early 1900's.  It has been fully restored to a better than new condition and ready to be the center of attention of your weathervane project.  Here's what was done to ensure that it will last for another 100 years:
Disassembly of horse from arrow and complete separation of hollow body horse
All parts de-rusted to bare metal
Three (instead of the original two) high strength, solid brass (not steel) mounting rods soldered into the horse's legs
Rust preventative applied to the interior of the horse body
Horse body reassembled and soldered
Horse remounted to copper arrow shaft and soldered in place
Antique 1920's era cast iron feather finial added to the end of the arrow shaft as an upgrade
Solid copper sleeve, sized to receive standard 1/2" copper tubing fabricated and fitted into the arrow's attachment point
All imperfections filled with solder and J-B Weld (not Bondo)
Vent holes added to prevent hollow body from eventually splitting at seams due to repeated expansion of heated air
Primed with red oxide
Finished with 5 coats of wet sanded Rust-Oleum semi-gloss
28" L x 8" H x 1" W

The copper tubing in the first 11 photos and the complete weathervane in the last photo are not part of this sale.  Only the restored horse and arrow in the first 11 photos are for sale.
The last photo shows the identical model of 1920's antique weathervane being sold here.  It's installed on standard 1/2" copper tubing, with an original 1920's copper tip, base and milk glass globe.  The horse and arrow are riveted to the copper pole at the arrow's attachment point and both rotate as one in a base attached to the roof.
